Transparency is not proven through protocol press conferences and self-praise, but by delivering invoices, contracts, decisions and precise data on how citizens' money is spent, the Center for Civic Education (CCE) announced today.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) said this after the president of the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro (SPUCG), Jakov Vukčević, said at a press conference three days ago that the work of SPUCG has always been transparent, stating that the results were such that they achieved a series of significant victories for students.
"While CCE has been waiting for months for documentation on the spending of more than 1,35 million euros of public money allocated by the University of Montenegro to the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro (SPUCG), SPUCG President Jakov Vukčević publicly states that their work has 'always been transparent'. However, transparency is not proven through protocol conferences for the media and self-praise, but by submitting invoices, contracts, decisions and precise data on how citizens' money is spent. This is especially important when it comes to those who are just preparing to take on more responsible social functions, because if they do not show responsibility towards public resources now, it is difficult to expect them to show it later," the CCE statement published on the social network Iks emphasizes.
CCE said they welcome "all the results in terms of improving the position of students that SPUCG presented, although many of them are predominantly the result of the work of other actors, not SPUCG itself."
"However, what is worrying is the fact that the extensive annual report of SPUCG does not include a financial section, nor was any data on the spending of public money presented at the press conference. Therefore, the key question remains: why is SPUCG hiding its finances from the public? If everything is transparent - where are the documents?", said the CCE.
