The Board of Directors of the University of Montenegro (UCG) will propose to the founder - the Government - to accept the Proposal for a Decision on Amendments to the Statute of the institution, according to which the Senate will propose the rector to that governing body, "Vijesti" has learned unofficially.
According to this information, the Board of Directors unanimously supported the proposed changes, as well as the proposal to appoint Professor Svetlana Perović as Vice-Rector of the University of Montenegro.
"Vijesti" recently reported that the harmonization of the Statute with the Law on Higher Education in the area of the election of the rector caused friction at the University of Montenegro, as some academic staff advocated that the Senate should propose to the Board all candidates who meet the requirements, while others believed that it should be one candidate chosen by the majority of senators.
The new solution, among other things, stipulates that if no candidate for rector has received a majority of votes from the total number of Senate members through three rounds of voting, that body must decide that a proposal for the election of the rector has not been established. The Governing Board of the University of Montenegro is notified of this, which suspends the current procedure and initiates a new procedure for the election of the rector.
Another novelty, "Vijesti" has learned, is that vice-rectors will not be able to be elected for more than two consecutive terms...
