Police Directorate: Let's contribute to the safe celebration of Independence Day by acting responsibly

The Police Directorate appealed to all citizens to spend the upcoming holidays responsibly, with dignity and in the spirit of togetherness, taking into account their own safety and the safety of their families, friends and all other citizens.

The police said that during the upcoming holiday, Montenegro's Independence Day, numerous gatherings, celebrations, and increased traffic intensity are expected across the country.

"We especially appeal to refrain from excessive alcohol consumption and any form of risky or irresponsible behavior that can lead to unwanted consequences," the police said.

As they stated, taking into account the expected increased traffic frequency towards tourist centers, both in the south and in the north of Montenegro, occasional traffic jams and difficult traffic flow on some roads can be expected.

The Police Department warned that driver fatigue, inattention, and failure to comply with traffic regulations are the most common causes of traffic accidents.

"That is why the Police Directorate specifically appeals to all road users to plan their journey in a timely manner, adapt their driving to the conditions and state of the roads, and to contribute to the safety of all road users through conscientious, responsible and patient behavior," the statement says.

It is stated that a special emphasis of the Police Directorate's activities during the holidays will be focused on controlling reckless drivers and sanctioning perpetrators of traffic violations.

To that end, as the police said, vehicles for traffic control and recording violations in motion, the so-called "interceptors", will be deployed on all busy roads.

The police said that tomorrow, in some parts of the capital, as well as in the area of ​​the Royal Capital Cetinje and on the Nikšić - Grahovo road, there will be a complete or partial traffic suspension, as well as limited access to certain roads, streets, areas and buildings, primarily in areas where public gatherings are held.

"Due to the above activities, we appeal to citizens to have understanding for temporary measures and restrictions, and to adjust their obligations and movements to planned events and instructions from the competent services," the statement said.

It is added that the Police Directorate will take all measures and actions within its jurisdiction during the upcoming holidays, with an increased presence of police officers in the field, in order to maintain stable public order and peace, safe and unhindered traffic, prevent the commission of criminal offenses, and ensure the personal and property safety of all citizens and tourists.
