Kolašin needs another tourism inspector due to the growth in the number of accommodation capacities

The Municipality of Kolašin intends to hire another tourism inspector, which, they explain, is necessary due to the increasing number of registered facilities and accommodation units.

The need for another inspector, says the director of the Tourist Organization (TO) Zorica Milašinović, The size and fragmentation of the municipality impose this. She explains that it is difficult to expect the existing inspector to do all the work, so she claims that staff reinforcement is justified.

"It is now objectively difficult to expect that one tourist inspector can conduct a timely and high-quality inspection of all registered and unregistered tourist facilities. Kolašin is rapidly developing in terms of tourism, so it is very important that inspection supervision is efficient, regular and evenly distributed, precisely in order to preserve the quality of the offer, but also to support those who operate in accordance with the regulations. Therefore, we believe that hiring additional tourist inspectors would be very important for the further development and improvement of the offer. We now have one tourist inspector and it is unrealistic to expect him to visit, for example, Bjelasica, Sinjajevina and Komovi, the Moračka Mountains and the Mrtvica Canyon, as well as the entire city, in one day," says Milašinović.

She reminds that, not counting hotel accommodation, there are currently 480 accommodation units registered in Kolašin. The total income of the Kolašin Tourist Board, which consists of tourist tax, membership fees, funds from the municipal budget and incentive measures for tourism development, was only 224.207 euros last year. The year before, the Tourist Board had less than 173.000 euros available for all activities and employee salaries.

According to MONSTAT data, cited in the Information, 140.436 overnight stays were recorded in Kolašin in 2024, and 172.680 last year. The number of registered tourists last year was 69.791, and the year before that it was 51.753. The document also states that significant progress was made in the number of registered private accommodation providers in 2025, so there are now 477 of them, with approximately 3.300 beds.

Before 2019, Kolašin did not have a tourist inspector for many years. By hiring an inspector seven years ago, as previously claimed by the Municipality, the system of collecting the tourist tax was significantly improved, as well as the control of private accommodation operations. The increase in the number of registered tourist facilities, especially when it comes to the rural part of the municipality, has been visible in the last few years. For example, from 2019 to 2025, the number of accommodation units increased almost sevenfold.
