The Port of Kotor has improved accessibility for people with disabilities through the "Danova next" project, the Port of Kotor announced today.

"An induction system for people with hearing impairments was installed in the passenger terminal of the Port of Kotor, specialized non-metallic wheelchairs were purchased for passing through security controls, as well as two electric vehicles for transporting people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility between ships and the terminal, thus improving the accessibility of port services for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility. In addition, the Port of Kotor actively participated in the development and testing of the 'Danova next' application, which provides users with easier access to information on the accessibility of transport services and infrastructure, the statement said.

The Port of Kotor added that these activities were implemented within the project "Danova next - Smart Transport Network for improving travel accessibility for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility in the Danube region through innovative services", which is implemented through the "Interreg Danube Region Programme".

"The project leader is Dubrovnik Airport, while the project brings together 16 partners from 11 countries in the Danube region, including airports, ports, local government units, universities and organizations representing the interests of people with disabilities. From Montenegro, the Airports of Montenegro and the Port of Kotor are participating in the project as equal partners. The project began on January 1, 2024 and will last until June 30, 2026, with the aim of improving the accessibility of transport services for people with disabilities and people with reduced mobility through the development of innovative solutions, the application of new technologies and improving the availability of information in various modes of transport," the statement reads.

It is stated that in cooperation with project partners, the Port of Kotor worked during the implementation of the project to improve the accessibility of the passenger terminal and port services, with a special focus on people with hearing impairments and people with reduced mobility.

"The activities carried out represent a significant contribution to creating a more inclusive, accessible and safer environment for all users of port services, in accordance with European accessibility standards and the principles of equal access for all passengers. By implementing these activities, the Port of Kotor confirms its commitment to improving the quality of services and creating conditions that enable equal and dignified use of port infrastructure for all passengers, regardless of their physical capabilities," the Port of Kotor said.
