Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development Damjan Ćulafić appealed to citizens to be careful and responsible during the upcoming period of high temperatures so as not to cause fires, endanger their own and others' lives, and cause damage to nature and the environment.
He said that Montenegro, unfortunately, has many examples that remind us of the devastating consequences of fires, recalling that one human life was lost in fires last year.
"Last year, one human life was lost, which is the most tragic reminder of how important it is for us all to act responsibly and conscientiously," Ćulafić said in a statement.
He said that numerous areas affected by the fires have not yet fully recovered, which is why the Ministry has launched activities aimed at their recovery through the "Green Renovation" campaign.
"Planting new trees has been carried out in several locations, and we plan to continue these activities in the coming period," said Ćulafić.
He said that forests, meadows and coasts are already facing the problem of improper waste disposal, and that fires further destroy ecosystems, endanger flora and fauna, and leave long-term consequences for nature and the quality of life of all citizens.
"Therefore, we once again appeal to all citizens to contribute to the preservation of Montenegro's natural resources through their responsible behavior, because prevention is the best way to protect life, property and the environment," concluded Ćulafić.
