European Union: Ministry of Interior to explain why license plates are not being delivered

The European Union has called on the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) to explain why license plates are not being delivered.

"Montenegrin citizens and businessmen have been facing an unexpected problem for two months, caused by the incompetence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, because they cannot obtain license plates for vehicles that have been registered. Dozens of citizens, as well as numerous businessmen, have complained in recent days that they have been waiting for over 50 days for the regional departments to receive plates for which the registration and all state fees have been duly paid," the statement reads.

It is obvious, as they said, that for some, even this seemingly routine tender procedure or delivery is "too much math."

"A particular problem is faced by those for whom the use of fully registered vehicles is a source of income - numerous vehicles of rent-a-car agencies, tour operators, truck drivers, limousines, but also other citizens who cannot cross the border of Montenegro. Many are already losing thousands of euros, and in a fully regulated country, someone would have to compensate them," the European Union points out.

They called on the Ministry of the Interior to inform citizens and business people about what is happening with the license plates and when their delivery for properly registered vehicles will begin. "Calling people to account for omissions is, unfortunately, a futile exercise," the statement reads.
