Bar: Bulky waste is the biggest problem

The local company "Komunalne djelatnosti" from Bar has carried out regular, but also intensified, activities to improve, clean and maintain public areas in Sutomore, after numerous criticisms of the waste and communal hygiene situation expressed by councilors in the Bar Municipal Assembly and by citizens via social networks.

From "Communal Services", headed by Stevo Pejović, said that the tourist season is in full swing, and the increased number of guests means more work for their city cleaning workers. That's why teams are on the ground in a second shift, to keep public areas, promenades and the beach area neat and clean.

Regular cleaning and maintenance activities are being carried out around the bus station in Sutomore, including cleaning the canal and taxi stand area, and are being carried out due to the increased number of visitors and more intense traffic during the tourist season.

In order to improve the hygiene of public areas in Sutomore, disinfection and deodorization activities of semi-underground containers were carried out, as well as washing of container locations and baskets in the square.

City Cleaning workers have been engaged in a second shift to respond to the increased workload due to the high number of visitors to Sutomore during the tourist season.

Activities are being carried out along the 'Ivo Novaković' waterfront in Sutomore, where detailed cleaning and purification of public areas, waste removal, and emptying of trash cans along the promenade area were carried out.

"Through the continuous work of our teams and the responsible attitude of all citizens and visitors, we jointly contribute to preserving the cleanliness, tidiness and more beautiful appearance of Sutomore, creating a pleasant and safe environment for living, relaxing and everyday activities along the 'Ivo Novaković' coast," announced the "Communal Services" of Bar.

The bypass from ZIB's buildings to Maljevik, as well as the section through Čeluga, has been mowed. They announced that the Roads working unit will continue with regular maintenance of road routes and landscaping of public areas, with the aim of improving safety and better visibility of roads.

In Sutomore, among other things, the installation of cameras has begun, which should cover locations identified as critical points for improper waste disposal, in order to combat this problem and strengthen the penalty policy, and they will be installed in over 40 locations.

"The goal is to protect utility equipment, prevent improper waste disposal and combat vandalism. Video surveillance footage will be used by the Municipal Police and the Municipal Inspection of the Municipality of Bar in order to identify perpetrators of utility violations and take legally prescribed measures, including issuing misdemeanor orders and initiating appropriate procedures. Any person found committing a utility violation will be prosecuted and sanctioned in accordance with the law," they said from "Utility Activities".

At a session held at the end of June, the councilors of the Bar Municipal Assembly adopted the Report on the implementation of the program for performing utility services of LLC "Communal Services" Bar for 2025.

The opposition also praised the work of this company and its maintenance of public and green spaces, while the most criticism was directed at the municipal problems in Sutomore. They called Sutomore a "black spot" in the Bar municipality and pointed out that this part of the city faces the most municipal problems, especially bulky waste.

The director of "Communal Services" Pejović said that even if they want to collect waste after 21 pm, it is not possible because the landfill is closed and they have to time their shifts and protect their workers from the highest temperatures and organize them to work in the morning and afternoon.

He also said that the problem with bulky waste is specific to Sutomore, that it does not exist in some other local communities and that it is "clear and familiar" to him, and that it is only a question of when the owners of private accommodation who are not registered start preparing the facilities for rental for the tourist season. Then they throw out toilets, rubble, stoves, mattresses during the night, he explained, onto the public surface and create an opportunity for someone to immediately photograph and criticize it in the morning.
