Montenegro has never been more prepared for the fire season, said Minister of the Interior Danilo Šaranović, stating that after a long time, all three Air tractor firefighting aircraft are fully operational and ready for the upcoming fire season.
Šaranović, in a statement to the media, recalled that the Government of Montenegro has secured the engagement of an additional aircraft for this fire season, which has increased the total capacity of aircraft for extinguishing fires to 17 tons of water in one burst, not counting the capacities of the Montenegrin Army Air Force, which unreservedly participates in extinguishing fires whenever necessary.
"This is four times more than last year, when the capacity was four tons of water. This data best speaks to how much the preparedness of the protection and rescue system has improved and how responsibly we approach the protection of citizens, their property and our natural resources," Šaranović pointed out.
According to him, this is the result of serious work, dedication, and expertise of people who have been working hard for months to get these aircraft back into service.
"Therefore, I extend my sincere gratitude to the mechanics and pilots of the Air-Helicopter Unit, thanks to whom we are welcoming this fire season much more prepared than in previous years," said Šaranović.

He stated that they must be aware that regardless of all the capacities and the fact that the system has been additionally strengthened this year, in the case of large and simultaneous fires, even the capacities of much larger and more developed countries are sometimes not sufficient.
"That is precisely why we are once again appealing to citizens to refrain from lighting fires in the open and to demonstrate a responsible attitude towards the community, nature and future generations," said Šaranović.
