Bronze medal for Jovan Janković at the 56th International Physics Olympiad

Jovan Janković, a student at the "Slobodan Škerović" Gymnasium in Podgorica, won a bronze medal at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2026), which took place from July 4 to 12 in the city of Bucaramanga, Colombia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MPNI) announced.

"Montenegro was represented at this prestigious international competition by competitors Andreja Popović, Vanja Lazarević, Jovan Aranđelović and Milo Popović, all from the 'Slobodan Škerović' Gymnasium. Around 400 of the best high school students from over 90 countries around the world participated in the Olympiad," the Ministry of National Education and Science said in a statement.

The government department added that the team was led by Predrag Miranović and Stevan Đurđević from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Montenegro, who, as they state, significantly contributed to the achieved result with their work and dedication during the months of preparation.

"The International Physics Olympiad is one of the most important world competitions in this field for high school students, which brings together the most talented young physicists from all over the world. Winning the bronze medal in extremely strong international competition is an exceptional success, both for Jovan Janković and for the Montenegrin education system," the Ministry of Education and Science said in a statement.

The achieved result, added the Ministry of Education and Science, once again confirms that Montenegro has talented students who, with their knowledge, dedication and work, can compete on an equal footing with their peers from all over the world.

"At the same time, this success testifies to the importance of continuous support for mentors and work with young talents, which year after year brings notable results at the most prestigious international competitions. The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation and the Examination Center congratulate Jovan Janković on winning the bronze medal, all members of the Montenegrin team on representing our country worthily, as well as the team leaders, Prof. Dr. Predrag Miranović and MA Stevan Đurđević and their colleagues for their dedicated work and significant contribution to the development of young talents and the affirmation of physics in Montenegro," the statement reads.
