The commander of the "Tivat" Volunteer Fire Department offered help to colleagues from Korčula

The commander of the Voluntary Fire Department "Tivat" from Tivat, Dragan Franović, offered the DVD to his colleagues - volunteer firefighters from Korčula, who have been battling a large forest fire on that island in Croatia for two days.

Last night, as the fire on Korčula was more or less uncontrollably consuming dozens of hectares of dense pine forest in the Korčula municipalities of Blato and Smokvica, Franović sent a message to his colleagues from the Smokvica Volunteer Fire Department:

"Good evening. I see and follow the events on Korčula. I am the commander of the Tivat Fire Department in Montenegro. If we can help you, call, we are here," was Franović's message to the Korčula firefighters.

The Croatian Volunteer Firefighters Association decided to share this message with the citizens and public in that country, noting that their Montenegrin colleagues were the first to contact them, thus showing the most important thing - solidarity and willingness to help in times of need.

The fire on Korčula, which has been burning for two days, has so far burned over 550 hectares of dense pine forest, and firefighters have struggled to protect the homes and properties of locals.

The fire caused by a lightning strike is being extinguished by around 200 firefighters from Korčula and the interior of Croatia who were sent to help, as well as firefighting helicopters.

Incidentally, members of the "Tivat" DVD already two years ago voluntarily provided assistance in dealing with emergency circumstances in Montenegro's neighborhood, as they were engaged in Konjic, BiH, for several days in October 2024, helping local professional and volunteer firefighters and members of the protection and rescue services in overcoming the consequences of the catastrophic floods that affected that part of BiH.
