Local Municipality Dobrota I: We demand clear and official answers about the causes of the shortage of drinking water

The Local Community (MZ) Dobrota I announced that it expresses serious concern about the several-day shortage of drinking water, and that it demands that all competent institutions finally provide citizens with clear and official answers about the causes of this problem, as well as a plan to solve it.

The Dobrota I Local Community Council also said that they recognize the new order of the Municipality of Kotor, and believe that any measure that can contribute to preserving the available quantities of water is justified at this time.

"However, such measures can only mitigate the consequences, but they cannot solve the problem that citizens have been suffering for weeks. Therefore, we expect that, with the implementation of the order, the authorities will finally come before the citizens with clear answers and concrete solutions. Citizens contact us every day, and we do not know what to tell them. In communicating with the authorities and employees, both from the local-city and the Regional Water Supply, we are unable to obtain reliable and verified information that they are willing to publicly stand behind, but their answers remain at the level of confidential and unofficial information or unconfirmed assumptions," the Dobrota I Local Community said in a statement.

According to them, the problem is not only that we have not had drinking water for almost a month, that our household appliances and plants in our gardens are deteriorating, but also that we have neither adequate information nor elementary responsibility from the competent city and regional authorities.

"Tell us why there has been no drinking water for over twenty days?; Is the problem in the underwater pipe that was damaged by a cruise ship anchoring a few years ago, and which has obviously not been repaired yet?; Is the problem in the infrastructure of the Regional Water Supply System through Radanovići?; Is the problem the reduced capacity of the Regional Water Supply System 'Bolje sestre' source and the city sources of Ercegovina and Škurd? Why has the capacity of the city water supply system been reduced?; Is it the blasting near the sources in Orahovac and Tabačina in order to clear and urbanize plots for more empty apartments?; Why is there no water?; Why don't you buy it?; So, answer - that is your least obligation," the statement emphasizes.

They also said that "these stories about the superiority of nature and the salinization of both local springs are humiliating for citizens."

"We haven't been living here since yesterday. The queues in front of the tankers at the height of the 2026 season are an additional burden and torment for the local population, whose life has been turned into hell by road and sea traffic, congestion and prices, but they are also a grave shame for local and state authorities. Particularly offensive are the daydreams about desalination plants - very expensive, complex and environmentally risky - which only testify to cynical carelessness and the lack of will to deal responsibly with the problems of the local community," the statement said.

As added by the Dobrota I Local Community, the least they could do is not charge them for the sea that carries them to their deaths.

"...But we know what the chances are for that. The Dobrota I local community expects the competent institutions to take responsibility without further delay, tell citizens the truth about the causes of the problem, and urgently take measures to restore proper water supply as soon as possible," the statement concludes.
