WWTP for the municipalities of Tivat and Kotor will purify 3,8 million cubic meters.

The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for the municipalities of Tivat and Kotor, located on Klačina in Krtolimno near Tivat, will, according to the work plan, receive and treat a total of 3.800.000 cubic meters of wastewater from those two cities this year.

On average, the WWTP will process around 316.000 cubic meters of wastewater per month, the purification of which will produce 100 cubic meters of sewage sludge per month as a by-product. In order to further treat and dry this sludge before disposal in an adequate landfill, the WWTP will consume 580 kilograms of polymers for separation per month, or 19 tons of lime for sludge stabilization.

The joint Tivat-Kotor WWTP began operating on September 1, 2016, and over the past almost ten years, it has treated a total of over 30 million cubic meters of wastewater before discharging it into the sea.

This year, the WWTP expects to begin modernizing and upgrading the plant by introducing a tertiary phase of wastewater treatment in order to more efficiently remove residual phosphorus from it. This project, among other things, also envisages the installation of some new equipment, or the replacement of part of the existing equipment with more modern and efficient equipment, in order to improve the entire technological process and follow the latest international trends in the field of wastewater treatment and management. Last year, the WWTP prepared a preliminary modernization project for which the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development received approval, and this investment, estimated at 3,75 million euros, will be implemented from the state budget through the Ministry of Public Works.

WWTP, headed by the director Stefan Cobanovic, plans to generate total revenues of 1.000.953 euros this year, which is about 20 percent more than last year.

Almost all of the WWTP's revenue will come from the budgets of the Municipalities of Tivat and Kotor, which will allocate 450.000 euros (Kotor) and 433.503 euros (Tivat) for the ongoing maintenance of the Klačina plant, while the Municipality of Kotor will pay another 50.000 euros and the Municipality of Tivat 65.450 euros for investment maintenance. This is essentially a kind of payment for the wastewater treatment service from the two cities at the WWTP.

As for expenses, they are planned for this year at a total of 883.500 euros, which means that the WWTP will end the business year 2026 in a surplus of around 117.000 euros. The largest part of the expenses relates to the costs of salaries and compensation of salaries of a total of 18 employees (324.000 euros). The costs of materials will amount to 231.000 euros, the costs of production services to 205.200 euros, and non-production services to 103.380 euros. For the disposal or disposal of dried sewage sludge at the Podgorica landfill "Livade", the WWTP will allocate a total of 100.000 euros this year.

This year, in cooperation with the Electric Power Company of Montenegro, as part of the "Solari 5000+" project, the WWTP intends to install a 90 kW mini solar power plant on the facilities of that plant, which would produce 120 to 140 megawatt hours of electricity annually and thus contribute to reducing the bills that the WWTP pays for consumed electricity.
