Independent MP Nikola Janović appealed today to the competent state authorities to solve the problem with drinking water in Kotor.
He said in the Assembly that there has been no fresh water in Kotor for a month.
"As a resident of Kotor and as someone who comes from a city that is not only a jewel of our, but also of the world's cultural heritage, which is the center of Montenegrin tourism, I want to make an appeal, because for about a month now there has been no fresh water in Kotor, therefore no drinking water. Without wishing to point to anyone's responsibility now, this will certainly be the subject of discussion at the local parliament session soon, but I want to make an appeal, first of all to the management of the Regional Water Supply Company, the relevant Ministry of Tourism, to solve this problem," said Janović.
Janović added that any story now, "about who ordered how much water and whether it was ordered properly or not, or even worse that this is a natural phenomenon," is bad.
"In 2026, we need to explain to tourists and citizens of Kotor in the heart of the season that this is a natural phenomenon," said Janović.
The Kotor Water Company announced six days ago that due to increased water salinity in the area from Dobrota to Risan, cisterns with drinking water for citizens have been deployed at several locations in Kotor.
The director of the Kotor Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, Đuro Marković, said on TV Vijesti's Boje jutra that technical water with increased salinity is currently being distributed in that part of the municipality, which is microbiologically and chemically correct, but is not intended for drinking.
