One of the morning activities of this year's Tango Camp was different from the usual. Some of the participants, together with Darko Dožić, founder of Tango Natural, took part in an ecological tour that combined a city clean-up with short lectures on the connection between tango, creativity, and environmental preservation.
Participants joined the efforts of the elementary and high schools to make this area tidier and cleaner. During the action, they cleaned the schoolyards, but also removed additional amounts of waste that had accumulated over the years in the neglected area of the former Music School, as well as in the wider surroundings of that location.
After the action ended, the tango campers symbolically, in a tango embrace and surrounded by bags of collected waste, sent a message that this space deserves to grow into a small school park. They also said that the trees that had spontaneously grown in previous years should not be cut down, "given the lack of green spaces in the schoolyard and the increasingly pronounced tendency towards concreting and intensive construction in Kolašin."
"As a surprise and reward for their contribution to the city, the hosts took the participants to a place that, as they say, not even many Kolašin residents know about - the Pažanj stream canyon. This hidden natural oasis, just half an hour's walk from the city center, provided the participants with a unique adventurous experience. However, the action did not end there. Noticing the waste piled up in the stream bed, the tango campers collected and took out several bags of garbage that, due to the carelessness of individuals, ended up in the stream," say the organizers of the traditional Kolašin event.
They explain that with these activities they have shown "that Tango Camp is not just a meeting place for dancers from all over the world, but also a community that through concrete actions promotes responsibility, creativity and care for the space in which it resides, leaving behind a mark that is much more than dance steps."
