The Sports Fishing Club (SRK) Lipljen from Pljevlja announced today that it has stocked the waters of Pljevlja in a two-day campaign, as part of its continuous concern for the preservation of fish stocks.
"Around 20.000 brown trout fry, ranging in size from eight to 20 centimeters, were released into the upper and lower reaches of the Ćehotina River, Otilović Lake, as well as into certain tributaries. The stocking is carried out based on a previous DNA analysis of the fish fry conducted by the Faculty of Science (PMF), a health analysis by the Specialist Veterinary Clinic, and with the approval of the Ministry of Agriculture. The entire process took place under the supervision of fisheries inspectors," the statement said.
SRK Lipljen added that the stocking they carry out from their own hatchery on the Breznica River "represents an example of good practice, as it is based on modern methods of checking the origin and health status of the fry due to the fact that the hatchery produces indigenous brown trout from the Black Sea basin, which is the only such hatchery in Montenegro."
"In this way, not only is the chance of fish survival in natural waters increased, but the genetic structure of indigenous species is also protected, which is strictly stipulated by the Law on Freshwater Fisheries of Montenegro. Through stocking and managing the hatchery on Breznica, SRK Lipljen provides a good example of how a local community can responsibly manage natural resources. Through scientifically based measures and institutional cooperation," reads a statement from SRK Lipljen, which is presented by Vaso Knežević.
Announcement of restocking Borovičko Lake with carp
SRK Lipljen also announces the stocking of Borovičko Lake with carp in mid-August, for the first time officially and with the approval of relevant institutions (Ministry of Agriculture and Faculty of Science), and with the agreed friendly cooperation with SRK from Nikšić.
"Carp is recognized as a fish species present in Lake Borovica by the new Fisheries Base of the Ćehotina River Basin, which has created the conditions for the legal restocking of this lake with this species of fish. The action to restock Lake Borovica with carp will be preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the SRK Lipljen - Pljevlja and the SRK Nikšić - Nikšić, on the basis of which the possibility of restocking Lake Borovica in the future will be created, based on remedial fishing from Nikšić waters during the carp rescue action during the system emptying period for the purposes of carrying out the regular annual overhaul of the Perućica HPP," the SRK Lipljen statement states.
