Every year, the International Tango Camp brings to Kolašin people who, with their energy, life experiences and values, make the city change, or show its most beautiful face. Almost every participant can be an interesting conversationalist or say a sentence about how, seemingly, the unusual connection between Kolašin and tango is, in fact, natural and strong.
Belgian Muriel Fourcroy is an industrial engineer from Belgium, a world traveler, in love with tango, but also with Kolašin. She tells “Vijesti” that “her father is Belgian, her mother is from Croatia, she works as a business analyst for a German company.” However, behind her business career lies a completely different lifestyle.
She spends almost half of the year in Brussels, while the other half travels the world with her four-year-old son, who has so far visited 18 countries on four continents. As she says, traveling has taught her that what she loves most is not just new destinations, but adventure, meeting people, cultures, and different views of the world.
She says that she makes some of the most important decisions in her life based solely on intuition. It is precisely such decisions that have taken her to places she never planned to visit.
As a child, she tried her hand at numerous sports and hobbies - from horseback riding and ballet, to tennis and athletics. However, the turning point came in 2010, when she discovered belly dancing.
"My teacher didn't just teach us technique. Every class was much more than just dance - it was a lesson about life. After finishing my studies in Belgium, I felt like I was missing something that academic life couldn't provide. I thought, maybe I should go to Buenos Aires and learn tango," says the Belgian.
Without much thought, she packed her bags. She danced tango every day for four months, and then she realized that dance for her was not just an art.
"Dance is a way to express emotions that we often cannot put into words, towards ourselves, towards others, and perhaps towards the entire universe."
Later, a book took her to Lebanon, where she enrolled in master's studies at the American University of Beirut. However, her love for tango was so strong that she managed to convince the university to set up an exchange program with the University of Buenos Aires, where she spent another year perfecting her dance.
A dream and a square
In many ways, the authentic and unusual interviewee of "Vijesti" tells that six years ago she dreamed of a city she had never been to.
"Six years ago, I had an extremely vivid dream. There was a square in it, filled with details that I have never forgotten. I didn't know where the place was, but it remained deeply etched in my memory. Last summer, almost by accident, I signed up for the Kolašin Tango Summer Camp. The plan was simple - a week of tango, followed by a short trip through Montenegro, Albania and Kosovo. However, as soon as I stepped out onto the main square in Kolašin on the first day, I was speechless," the Belgian recalls.
In the center of Kolašin, she says, she realized she knew the place “because she had seen it in her dream six years ago.” That moment was for Muriel “the most significant tango experience she had ever had.”
"During the entire festival, I was haunted by only one thought - this is where I should be. After the camp ended, I wasn't sure whether to return. I was afraid that such a powerful experience could never be repeated. I wondered if it was possible for such magic to happen only once. However, there are feelings that are stronger than any doubt. That's why I'm back in Kolašin this summer," says the interviewee of "Vijesti".
She is aware, she explains, “that some decisions cannot be explained by logic.” That's why she listens to the feelings that brought her back to Kolašin.
The story of the interesting Belgian woman is just one of many tangerosa stories about dance, travel, and moments when only intuition guides them. However, many tangerosas can also tell a story about the possibilities and potential of Kolašin, which are often overlooked by those who call the city their permanent home.
