Active fires in Nikšić, Bar, Herceg Novi and Kolašin

On the territory of Montenegro, fires are currently active in the areas of Nikšić, Bar, Herceg Novi and Kolašin, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced.

They said that several fires were recorded during the day, which were successfully extinguished by the competent services.

There is an active fire in the village of Ponikvice in Nikšić, and teams from the local Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service are still on the scene.

In Bar, a fire is still active on Mount Lisinj.

In the Herceg Novi area, in Baošići, all available vehicles and personnel of the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service are on the ground. The Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Operational and Communication Center 112, sent a call for assistance in extinguishing the fire to the protection and rescue services of Kotor and Tivat, as well as the voluntary fire brigades of Perast, Bijela and Tivat.

During the day, aircraft from the Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of the Interior were deployed at several locations, including the areas of Nikšić, Bar and Herceg Novi, and in accordance with the development of the situation, they were redirected to the fire site in Baošići. Two Air Tractor AT-802 aircraft were deployed at that fire site, which dropped a total of 72 tons of water in 24 sorties, while the Antonov AN-32P aircraft made seven sorties, during which 56 tons of water were dropped on the fire site.

In Kolašin, a fire is still active in the town of Velje Duboko, which is currently under control.

A fire that was active in Doljani, in Podgorica, was extinguished by the joint efforts of members of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City and a helicopter of the Army of Montenegro. The military helicopter made two flights lasting a total of four hours and 35 minutes, during which 55 tons of water were dropped on the fire site.

The Ministry of Interior notes that firefighting is further complicated by changeable winds, which affect the development of the situation at the fire sites.

"The Directorate for Protection and Rescue, in cooperation with protection and rescue services, other competent institutions and aviation units, is continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and undertaking activities aimed at protecting the lives and property of citizens and responding to fires as efficiently as possible," the statement reads.
