The situation at the fire sites remains demanding, the competent services are continuously monitoring the situation and, in accordance with the development of the situation and priorities, are directing human, technical and aviation capacities, announced tonight the Director General of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), Miodrag Bešović.
"Active fires that are under control have been recorded in the areas of Herceg Novi, Ulcinj, Nikšić, Kotor and Pljevlja, while fires in the area of Bar (Lisinj) and Goli Brdo in Sutomore have almost been extinguished. In the area of Herceg Novi, the fire is active in the Baošići - Bijela - Zelenika - Đenovići stretch, while in Ulcinj, the fire areas are active in the Vladimir - Klezna - Gač - Zoganje - Briska Gora - Darza stretch. Fires are also active in the areas of Kusid and Štrek in Nikšić, Dragalj in Kotor and Pandurica in Pljevlja," Bešović pointed out in the statement.
He added that the engagement of the air force was particularly intensive during the day, which was sent to priority locations in Ulcinj, Nikšić and Herceg Novi.
"Based on today's engagement, MUP aircraft made a total of 59 sorties and released 222 tons of water, while the MUP and Army of Montenegro air forces together made 130 sorties and released a total of 293 tons of water. At the same time, a large number of members of the protection and rescue services, voluntary fire brigades, enterprise units, as well as members of the Army, were deployed in the field," said Bešović.
According to him, a total of 21 vehicles and 70 firefighters are currently deployed in the Ulcinj area, with additional capacities from the Army of Montenegro.
"In addition to the local protection and rescue service, members of services from Pluzine, Budva, Žabljak, Bijelo Polje, Bar, Kotor and Cetinje were engaged. The Montenegrin Army is also participating in extinguishing the fire with 14 members, three fire trucks and two cargo vehicles," said Bešović.
He said that teams from the Herceg Novi Protection and Rescue Service are deployed in the Herceg Novi area, assisted by firefighters from Tivat and Trebinje, voluntary fire departments from Tivat, Perast and Bijela, and the Luštica Bay enterprise unit.
"A total of 17 vehicles and 64 members have been deployed in this area," said Bešović.
He said that the Ministry of Interior, through the Directorate for Protection and Rescue, continuously monitors the situation at all fire sites and coordinates the engagement of capacities.
"Depending on the development of the situation, wind strength and threat assessment, forces are being redirected to locations where their engagement is most needed. All competent services remain on the ground and continue coordinated action with the aim of bringing active fires under control and protecting citizens and their property," said Bešović.
Bešović said earlier tonight that all firefighting air forces have been sent to Ulcinj, where the situation has worsened due to strong winds.
As the RTCG Portal reported at the time, the fire was spreading on Briska Gora, and at one point it even came close to houses.
