The Small Mountaineering Club (MAK) from Podgorica has announced a call for children to enroll in a climbing school. The first training sessions, they announced, will be organized on September 14th.
Training sessions will be held three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 5:00 PM to 6:20 PM and 6:30 PM to 7:50 PM, while the training schedule will be organized according to the age of the children.
The minimum age for enrolling the youngest in a climbing school is six years.
The children will be worked with by trainers who have been trained by licensed instructors from Serbia, Jelena Jakovljevic i Vuk Rokvić.
Rokvić previously said he hopes parents will recognize that sport climbing is now an Olympic sport, with safety standards at the highest possible level. According to him, sport climbing is “an extremely safe and organized sport that is also broadcast on channels like Eurosport.”
Sport climbing on artificial rocks is a sport that developed from sport climbing on natural rocks. The main goal was to create conditions for practicing sport climbing in urban, city environments.
Sport climbing has been an Olympic discipline since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. That year, as well as at the 2024 Paris Olympics, a female climber from Slovenia won the gold medal, Janja Garnbret.
Dozens of Slovenian primary and secondary schools have small to medium-sized climbing walls, and they are usually located in gymnasiums.
"Sport climbing for children means developing motor skills, coordination, strength and self-confidence. State support for this discipline means a safe introduction to climbing for the youngest, in accordance with European Union safety standards," he said earlier. Jure Kastelic from the Directorate for Sports of the Ministry of Economy, Tourism and Sports in the Government of Slovenia.
MAK brings together lovers of mountaineering, sport climbing and caving. On the premises, in the building of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City of Podgorica, at the Old Airport, the club has an artificial rock and a bouldering area, and for years has been organizing sport climbing courses for adults. A climbing school for children will also be organized at that location.
More information is available on MAK's social media channels Facebook and Instagram.
