The Tourist Organization (TO) of Žabljak has completed maps for the area of Durmitor and Sinjajevina.
It is about the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project, which was financially supported by the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourist Organization.
In this way, virtual communities were created - free maps, available to everyone, that everyone can edit independently, says TO Žabljak director Vanja Krgović Šarović.
She assessed that this will significantly improve the tourist offer:
"Numerous navigation applications use data from the OSM database and maps generated from this database as their basis... Due to their high-quality topographic features, numerous mountain rescue services from the USA and the EU use applications based on these maps for their regular activities" .
Šarović says that the OSM community in Montenegro is small and weakly active, and that until now almost all regions were poorly or not at all processed.
"Thus, in a practical sense, OSM was unusable when it comes to our country. As a socially responsible organization, the outdoor club The Northern Way from Beran, in 2015 took on this large and technically demanding job, and through volunteer work the wider region of Bjelasica, Komova and Prokletije was updated in detail".
She adds that the territory of the municipality of Žabljak and, to a greater or lesser extent, the municipalities of Plužine, Šavnik, Nikšić, Kolašin, Mojkovac, Pljevlja and Bijelo Polje were covered in detail.
