Minister of Science Sanja Damjanović will continue her scientific work at the Center for Heavy Ion Research in Helmuc (GSI) during her ministerial mandate, reports the portal of the Association of German Research Centers "The Helmholtz Association".
When asked if she would be able to continue research during her ministerial mandate, Damjanović replied that both the Montenegrin Prime Minister (Duško Marković) and the management of GSI accepted her wish to continue her scientific work and devote part of her time to it.
"I am very grateful for their understanding. Otherwise, I would not have accepted the offer to be a minister", said Damjanović.
She believes that international experience in scientific research is recommended for the position of minister.
Damjanović points out that the main challenge for Montenegro, as a small scientific community, is to join international scientific circles.
"Modern science requires modern technologies, equipment, but also large projects that in many areas can only be realized by pooling the resources of several countries. For developing countries with small resources, there is practically no alternative but to join such cooperation. Initial steps have already been taken to establish cooperation between existing research groups in Montenegro and reputable international institutions, such as CERN and EMBL...", said Damjanović.
According to her, Germany and other developed countries can learn about the importance of research and technology for survival in the modern world.
