The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) and the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT), in cooperation with the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, have prepared a National Platform for Countering Violent Extremism.
The goal of that document is to raise public awareness, encourage dialogue and better understanding of the various forms of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism.
The platform under the slogan "Together against violent extremism" at its official presentation on December 14 will gather in Podgorica representatives of competent institutions, local self-governments, media, political parties, non-governmental associations, religious communities, the academic community and other social actors who can contribute to combating these phenomena.
"Various forms of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism are global phenomena, and although Montenegro is in the group of countries where this problem is less pronounced, these phenomena are not unknown," says the joint statement of the Ministry of Interior, CDT and the OSCE.
It is estimated that special attention must be paid to this issue, especially bearing in mind the Constitutional determination of Montenegro as a civil state and society in which it is forbidden to incite hatred, discrimination or stigmatization on any basis.
"Following the example of the EU Network for Raising Awareness on Radicalization, the Platform represents the beginning of the formation of the National Radicalization Awareness Network (RAN) network, which will be established and coordinated by state authorities, and which will also have a place for other segments of society," says the announcement.
The platform will be the starting point for the development of a new Strategy for Countering Violent Extremism.
