The single mother of two girls has not received alimony for two years, which her ex-husband and the children's father is obliged to provide.
"The other parent does not participate in any sense of upbringing and everything else, least of all in the financial situation. Alimony was determined two years ago, 110 euros, with the fact that the court has not yet resolved that issue of ours," said one single child, Michael.
The state could give her and other single parents, of whom there are about 30 according to Monstat data from the last census, money from a special alimony fund. This system is already functioning in some countries of the region.
"The government should set aside a certain amount of money: it can be set aside in several ways that would not burden the budget further, namely that from all the massive confiscations or now these settlements with the rich, a part of the money goes to that alimony fund. means that if he doesn't pay the money for a month or two, the state is the one who will pay her, and she has a way to take the money from him," said Ljiljana Raičević.
The formation of the fund was proposed several times in the previous two years, but everything ended with proposals. Avoiding alimony in the Criminal Code is a crime against marriage and the family, but the state has no mechanisms for punishing irresponsible parents, who easily escape punishment.
"That doesn't exist anywhere in the region, except here, that he is declared incompetent or that he doesn't have a job, so he can't support his child. He has to. Women have to understand that. They have to," Raičević said.
Our interlocutor does not believe in state aid, which, she says, certainly already takes from the poor, instead of giving them.
"The state does not respond in any way. I complained, even asked for help, with the children's medical documentation and my own. Unfortunately, I was even rejected by the mayor for one-time help," said the single mother.

"Why is it necessary to force a parent at all? If he doesn't have it in his head that he should support his children or if he doesn't respect the law - he has to answer for that," said Liljana Raičević.
