A two-day educational workshop "Clinical characteristics of melanoma for health and non-health workers" was held in the hospital in Bar.

In addition to the theoretical part and practical familiarization with the new equipment, the participants exchanged experiences from practice with the lecturers - Milica Rajović, PhD, Marina Đuretić Guzina, PhD, and Biljana Raičević, MSc.

The director of the hospital, Dragoslav Tomanović, said that it is a continuation of the Interreg IPA trilateral program "MELAdetect" - early detection of melanoma of the skin, mucous membrane and eye, as part of which the hospital has already received a modern dermatoscope for mapping the whole body, and at the moment it is the only one in Montenegro that has such a modern device.

"For the dermatology clinic, we also received a UV lamp, an ophthalmoscope for the ophthalmology clinic, worth 60.000 euros, the use of which we demonstrated during this workshop. As part of the project, 150.000 euros will be allocated for the hospital in Bar. We will also hold education for target groups that come into contact with human skin - masseuses and opticians, hairdressers, pedicurists, beauticians and manicurists, in order to improve the information of the general population and influence potential patients to report to our hospital for free preventive examinations on time. "Melanoma is the most malignant tumor of the skin and mucous membranes, which is caused by a malignant change in cells, and it is not always easy to see at first glance," said Tomanović.

He announced that the hospital in Bar will apply for EU funds for the acquisition of equipment for early detection and education in the increasingly common diseases of colon and cervical tumors.
