The Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the world's largest mobile technology fair, has been canceled due to the fear of the coronavirus, which has already forced many companies to cancel their participation.
The GSMA organizer stated in a statement that "MWC Barcelona has been canceled due to global concerns over the coronavirus epidemic, fear of travel and other circumstances that make it impossible to organize the event."
The fair was supposed to take place from February 24 to 27.
MWC is one of the biggest international business events that has been canceled due to the fear of the epidemic.
"The host city respects and understands the decision. The GSMA and Barcelona's partners will continue to work together and support each other for the 2021 meeting and beyond," said a statement signed by John Hoffman, executive president of the World Mobile Operators Association (GSMA).
About 30 companies have canceled their arrival in the last few days, including Intel, Facebook, Cisco, Amazon, Vivo, LG, Ericsson, Sony...
The organizers tried to calm them down and announced new safety measures, such as temperature measurements and advice on disinfecting stands, Hina agency reports.
The World Mobile Congress has been held since 2006 in Barcelona.
At the fair, large manufacturers present new products.
It was announced that the 2021 fair will be held from February 22 to 25.
