The social network Instagram will start asking its users for confirmation of their date of birth, as part of efforts to create new security features for young people, the Facebook-owned social network announced today.
Instagram said in a statement that it will use that information to provide and ensure the right experiences for the right age group, Reuters reports.
Last month, the company said it would automatically switch users who are under 16 to a private account when they join the platform.
When they open a profile on that application, users will be asked to enter their date of birth, and then they will receive several warnings if they do not enter the date, reports Tanjug.
At some point, users will need to enter their date of birth to continue using the app, the company said.
As stated, these changes will only affect users who have not previously entered their date of birth in that application.
They add that they are aware that some users might enter a false date of birth, but they also say that they are already developing new technology to solve such problems.
