Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Meta (Facebook, Instagram), announced that he is introducing Meta Verified, an $11.99 per month subscription to verify accounts on platforms as the major social network goes through a financial crisis.
Meta Verified, which will first be available in Australia and New Zealand this week, is similar to the system introduced by Elon Musk at Twitter, with identity verification services and benefits such as "direct access to customer service," reports Hina.
"The idea was to improve the credibility and security of our services," Zuckerberg said in a message on Instagram and Facebook.
"Subscribers will receive a badge on Facebook and Instagram that shows their identity has been verified, protection for their account (against identity theft), access to customer service and greater visibility," said a spokesperson for Meta.
Subscription is intended for individuals over the age of 18, but not for company accounts. Users will pay $11.99 per month for Meta Verified on the web and $14.99 per month on iOS and Android.
