Starting next week, it will be much easier for tourists who are increasingly visiting the capital of Montenegro to find their way through Podgorica and find out which cultural monuments they should visit.

All of this will be easier thanks to the application "Podgorica in the palm of your hand", which was created by graduates of the Electrical School Marko Scepanovic i Aleksa Covic.

The two are already recognized in the world of robotics, because thanks to their non-governmental organization "Association of Young Innovators and Inventors of Montenegro" they help elementary school students gain knowledge in this field. Thanks to robotics, they learned to program, so they sent their idea to the competition of the Tourist Organization of Podgorica, which was about cultural valorization. The people from TO liked their idea, and they financed this project of young innovators.

Šćepanović and Čović talk about their application, which will be available in the first days of May, for Magazin...

How did you come up with the idea to create the application "Podgorica in the palm of your hand"?

Marko Šćepanović: We researched which monuments are located on the territory of Podgorica and wondered what they represented for some of them, and then we wondered how the tourists who visit Podgorica are doing. We thought about what would be interesting and useful to create, and that could help tourists, and we came up with the idea for the application "Podgorica in the palm of your hand". In addition to the fact that the idea seemed creative and very innovative to us, we thought that the application itself would be very useful because all the information about the monuments would be available on the phone, and this is something that would make it easier for all visitors to the capital to get to know all the monuments that Podgorica has. there is.

For now, this application was made for the Valorization of Cultural Heritage competition. How will tourists get to know Podgorica more easily with its help?

Aleksa Covic: Tourists will be able to find monuments on the territory of the capital within the application. They can see a list of all monuments, and when they open a monument from the list, they can read all the information about the monument, view pictures, see the location of the monument and how to get to it. In this way, apart from being able to find out all the information about the monument, tourists will be able to get to it.

For now, there is only information about the monuments and cultural features of Podgorica. Will this application spread and show some other places in the capital of Montenegro?

Aleksa Covic: The application is primarily intended for monuments and cultural heritage in the territory of Podgorica, but it also includes popular and historical places in the capital such as Sastavak, Duklja or Independence Square.

"Podgorica in the palm of your hand" is an application created for all visitors and tourists in the capital, and thanks to it, will the citizens of Podgorica get to know and learn something new about their city?

Marko Šćepanović: The application is intended primarily for tourists, but it is certain that citizens of Podgorica will be able to use this application as well, and that way they can get to know the monuments in their city better and learn and find out something they may not have known before.

Was it difficult to gather information about all the cultural monuments and features of the capital, and is it precisely through cultural heritage that one can best get to know a place?

Aleksa Covic: Given the large number of monuments and information about them, collecting all that information would certainly have been difficult if we hadn't been helped by the Tourist Organization of Podgorica, which has all that information inside the application. They provided us with significant help in this part and facilitated the collection of information.

The application also has its own filters, and TO Podgorica participated by marking those monuments that are "most important" in order to get to know the capital in the right way. What are the cultural monuments that make Podgorica recognizable?

Marko Šćepanović: The tourist organization marked those monuments that they consider the most important and significant so that tourists can see them within the application. One such monument is the Clock Tower, which is a recognizable symbol of Podgorica in the Old Town, or Sastavci and the bridge at Sastavci, which are a well-known place and popular among young Podgorica residents.

For now, the application is available in our, English and Italian languages, but in addition to language expansion, you plan to create 3D models of monuments, and audio-text will also be available. How can this version still be improved?

Marko Šćepanović: Within the application itself, there are already possibilities to add 3D models and audio text reading. There are more ideas for upgrading and improving the application itself.

Will such applications work for other Montenegrin cities?

Aleksa Covic: This application is intended for Podgorica and the Tourism Organization of the Capital City, which will use it, but if the application takes off, we are here to popularize it and raise it for Montenegro.
