During the World Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) 2023 in Shanghai, purchase and investment contracts worth several billions were signed, China Media Group (CMG) reports.
Wu Jincheng, director of the Shanghai Municipal Economic and Information Technology Commission, said that 8 billion yuan ($11 billion) worth of purchase intent contracts and 1,5 major investment projects worth of 32 billion yuan.
A record number of over 400 companies participated in this year's event, which had a total exhibition area of 50.000 square meters.
Both figures are the highest since 2018, when the annual event was inaugurated.
The conference also saw the debut of more than 30 new products.
Wu said Shanghai will make full use of the "magnetic effect" of the conference to promote the healthy development of the artificial intelligence industry.
Wang Zhijia, director of the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Shanghai Municipal Economic and Informatization Commission, said that Shanghai will give full play to the comprehensive advantages of the city, gather global innovation resources, attract high-quality teams at home and abroad.
The conference was hosted by the City of Shanghai and seven central government agencies, including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.
