American semiconductor giant Nvidia ended Tuesday as the world's largest capitalization after overtaking Apple, a sign of huge appetite for artificial intelligence (AI) equipment.
The Santa Clara, California-based group now has a market capitalization of $3.431 billion, ahead of Apple's $3.377 billion.
Envidia was already on top of the world in mid-June, but then fell. At the end of October, it briefly overtook Apple again, but only for a few minutes.
Although Envidia is now the largest by capitalization in the world, its stock market value is also higher than it was shown at the close of the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
At the end of October, that company reached 3.542 billion dollars.
However, the record remains owned by Apple, whose market capitalization rose to $3,61 billion in mid-October.
Since the beginning of October 2022, just before the arrival of ChatGPT, the value of Nvidia shares has increased by more than eleven times.
Envidia is considered the most advanced semiconductor manufacturer in the graphics card market, its chips have increased computing capabilities compared to a conventional microprocessor.
They're called GPUs (graphics processing units), and they're considered essential to the development of "generative AI."
On Friday, Nvidia will enter the leading Dow Jones index, in which it will replace its competitor Intel.
Apple arrived very late to generative AI, almost two years after the launch of ChatGPT.
It was only in late October that it deployed its first generative artificial intelligence system, dubbed "Apple Intelligence," on its smartphones, computers and tablets, marking its official entry into Silicon Valley's cutting-edge technology.
