The European Commission has approved a €920 million subsidy for Germany to build a new chip factory in Dresden.
This is a facility owned by Infineon. The new factory will be connected to the old one and will produce various semiconductors, SEEbiz reports.
The new production unit will provide the European Union with flexible capacities that will strengthen Europe's security of supply, resilience and technological autonomy in the field of semiconductor technologies, the European Commission announced.
A total of five billion euros are needed to expand the factory, and the start of production is planned for 2026, according to Infineon data.
The new factory will produce chips that will contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions and digitalization. They will be applied in the automotive industry and the renewable energy sector.
Infineon has been manufacturing in Dresden since 1994. It currently employs 3,9 people on two production lines and produces more than 400 different products.
