In case you've somehow missed the latest technological advancements, the ubiquity of AI, or artificial intelligence, has caused a certain amount of concern among workers.
Although the future probably won't look like some dystopian science fiction movie, for us mere mortals the situation could be very bad as AI advances, at least according to billionaire Bill Gates, writes Citymagazin, reported N1.
The tech mogul reportedly warned that many jobs will simply become obsolete as technology becomes more ingrained in society. However, Gates is pretty sure there are three occupations that AI will leave alone.
Developers
While AI can generate code, it is far from perfect at this point. Humans will need to monitor the AI, fix bugs and errors, and design even more advanced systems.
Energy experts
Gates also mentioned that the energy sector is too complex for AI to realistically manage at this stage. The oil, nuclear, and renewable sectors require strategy and too much expertise for the industry to be fully automated. Engineers, researchers, and technicians will still be needed to manage infrastructure, understand industry challenges, and innovate.
Biologists
As for biologists, while AI can be used as a tool in the medical industry (as it already is), the technology lacks the creativity needed for scientific discovery. So, in the meantime, experts will likely use AI to analyze large amounts of data and diagnose diseases.
Gates admitted that he could be wrong and that the way this technology is used will likely reshape everyday life much like the Industrial Revolution and the Internet did in the past.
And, if by chance AI doesn't become a permanent thing, we'll all be able to claim that we knew it would never work and that it was just a passing fad.
