OpenAI will begin showing ads to all users of the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the United States in the coming weeks, a company spokesperson said in a statement sent to Reuters.

OpenAI recently included Criteo, an advertising technology firm that provides an interface for ad buying and targeting improvements, in its advertising pilot program for the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the U.S., Criteo announced earlier this month.

According to The Information, Criteo offered advertisers deals worth between $50.000 and $100.000.

OpenAI also advised advertisers that a greater number of variations in ad text and visuals can increase the frequency of ad delivery and improve their performance, The Information added.

Reuters previously reported that OpenAI is considering advertising as a new source of revenue, while usage of ChatGPT is growing rapidly.

The company is seeking to diversify its revenue while facing rising costs of computing infrastructure due to increasing competition in the field of generative artificial intelligence.
