Three people suspected of child pornography were arrested in Montenegro as part of a major international operation involving seven countries.
The Police Directorate announced that Montenegrin police officers participated in the international action "Mosaic", as part of the activities carried out within the framework of the EUROPOL EMPACT Action Plan, which relate to the detection of child pornography crimes and the prosecution of the perpetrators of these crimes.
"The joint action "Mosaic" was carried out from November 6 to 17 at the international level, and in addition to our police, the police of Slovenia, the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of North Macedonia and Hungary also participated in it. states, 41 investigations were conducted, which included 39 persons, from whom members of the police of the mentioned states confiscated 200 electronic devices. In addition, two children, victims of criminal acts, were identified," the statement of the Police Administration points out.
The statement adds that in accordance with the activities undertaken in the preparatory phase of the action, which were started on the basis of data obtained through international cooperation, the officers of the Sector for the fight against crime - Group for the suppression of criminal acts of high-tech crime carried out searches at four locations, confiscated 11 electronic device and arrested three people suspected of three criminal offenses of child pornography.
"In fact, in Berane, the police deprived VG (64) of his liberty on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of child pornography. As part of the aforementioned activities, three mobile phones with compromising content were confiscated from the suspect. In Budva, KD (23) was deprived of his liberty on suspicion that he had committed the criminal offense of child pornography. The police confiscated his mobile phone, laptop and USB. A third person was deprived of his liberty in Podgorica, and the police found and confiscated two mobile phones, a laptop and a USB from him during a search. AG ( 19) is suspected of the criminal offense of child pornography," said the Police Administration.
They stated that it is suspected that these arrested have been acquiring, possessing and distributing photographs and other audio-visual materials of sexual exploitation of minors for a long period of time.
"In addition, during a search at one location in Cetinje, which is used by MV (54), the police confiscated a mobile phone, whose preliminary analysis found photographs that indicate the possible commission of the crime of child pornography, which will be reported by the competent state prosecutor." it is written in the announcement.
The Police Directorate notes that the officers of the Crime Fighting Sector continuously undertake activities aimed at detecting and elucidating child pornography crimes, and since the beginning of 2023, including the period of implementation of the "Mosaic" action, they have prosecuted a total of seven persons.
"Also, during the implementation of the activity in question, a preventive - operative action codenamed "Temida" was carried out, which primarily refers to the identification of minors who self-initiatively take photos and create videos of pornographic content, for fun or for the purpose of further distribution, and who are from the territory of Montenegro. The implementation of the aforementioned activities, in addition to the above, aims to protect minors, as well as prevent the exchange or distribution of material created in this way. The actions of police officers also include the education of minors, with an emphasis on familiarizing children and young people with potential dangers to which they are exposed when using social networks and the consequences that can be caused by their inadequate use," said the Police Administration.
They emphasize "continuous cooperation with representatives of the embassies of the United States of America and Great Britain in Montenegro, as well as representatives of the OSCE mission in Montenegro, who through their actions enabled the strengthening of administrative and technical capacities and raising the level of specialization of the officers of the Police Directorate, and in this case specifically the officers of the Group for suppression of high-tech crime".
