The numerous geopolitical challenges facing the modern world further reinforce the need to improve bilateral and multilateral cooperation mechanisms, said the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

Milatović, as announced by his cabinet, hosted a formal dinner in the Government House in Cetinje in honor of representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Addressing the audience, he stated that he was pleased to be the host of the meeting, which once again confirmed the strong friendship between Montenegro and the countries they represent.

He said that he is convinced that together, in a cordial atmosphere, they will create new perspectives of communication and cooperation.

"The year at the end was marked by numerous geopolitical challenges facing the modern world, which additionally reinforce the need to improve bilateral and multilateral mechanisms of cooperation, preventing crises and affirming peace," Milatović said.

In this sense, as he stated, diplomacy is a basic tool with the help of which they can make the world a better place for the life of every person, regardless of which nation or religion he belongs to.

Milatović thanked the representatives of the diplomatic corps for their dedicated work on strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and the home countries whose representatives are in Montenegro.

As he said, Montenegro has a clearly defined foreign policy, and one of its main pillars is nurturing the best possible relations with other countries.

"The first six months of holding the presidential office convinced me of the importance and need to, by exchanging views and opinions, additionally contribute to mutual trust and understanding," said Milatović.

As he said, the special symbolism of the event is given by the fact that it is held in Prijestonica, where Montenegrin statehood was created and Montenegrin diplomacy was conceived a century and a half ago.

"I am especially happy that traditional folklore will be part of tonight's program, which will fill your eyes and soul with the beauty of Montenegrin costumes, dances and songs, bringing to your hearts the spirit of the people we belong to," said Milatović.

Milatović's adviser on foreign policy, Marija Lakić Barfus, said that it was an excellent opportunity to express gratitude to the ambassadors for their contribution to the realization of the Montenegrin president's foreign policy agenda in the past six months, which was very successful.

As she stated, the work of the President of Montenegro is based on three key pillars.

"This implies the strengthening of Montenegro as a credible member of NATO, the acceleration of the European integration process in order to become the first next member of the European Union (EU) by 2028, as well as the strengthening of good neighborly relations," said Lakić Barfus.

Speaking about the event itself, she pointed out that it is a practice that already exists in all other EU members and beyond.

Croatian Ambassador to Montenegro Veselko Grubišić thanked Milatović for organizing the event, stating that he is satisfied that the meeting is being held in the Montenegrin Capital.

"I am glad that such a nice diplomatic meeting is taking place right here in Cetinje. In the previous days, we also had a wonderful event, where the First Lady opened a diplomatic bazaar that was very successful," said Grubišić.

Milatović's cabinet said that during the festive dinner, in a pleasant atmosphere, the guests present had the opportunity to listen to the performance of a string quartet and follow the performance of the folklore ensemble KUD Njegoš from Cetinje.
