The Montenegrin expedition, 17 athletes out of a total of 19 who will represent our country, left Podgorica today for Paris - the City of Light, where they will dream the most beautiful dreams for the next twenty days.
Sailor Milivoj Dukić is already there, and on July 25, athlete Darko Pešić will join our Olympians.
13 water polo players, tandem swimmer Jovan Kuljač - Miloš Milenković, as well as trumps in tennis and boxing - Danka Kovinić and Bojana Gojković, set off for France.
Big things are expected from Bojana, she does not hide that she is excited before the start of the Olympic Games, whose opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday evening.
"I am excited and proud at the same time. I can't wait for the fights to start and I'm sure that I will do my best and that I will represent my country and city in the best possible way," said Gojković, who will enter the ring on July 27 or 28.
The water polo players hope that they can enter the fight for a medal - it would be the first for the trophy sport, after Montenegro lost matches for bronze three times (2008, 2012 and 2016).
Now, however, the situation is different - the "sharks" are not among the favorites for the award, but they like the role of challengers from the shadows.
Stefan Vidović expects a great tournament.
"Pleasure and pride to represent my country at the Olympic Games for the second time. We had a difficult road to the competition itself, that makes it all the more beautiful, but participation is not our only goal - we want to present ourselves as well as possible", Vidović pointed out.
Montenegro opens the tournament against Croatia (on Sunday at 18.35:XNUMX), Greece, Italy, the United States and Romania are also in the group. The four best teams go to the quarterfinals.
"We are going match by match and I hope that we will make a result that we will all be satisfied with," added Vidović.
And swimmer Jovana Kuljača is making her debut at the Olympics, she will participate in the 50-meter freestyle.
"It's my first time at such a big competition, because the Olympic Games are a level above the European and World Championships. I hope for the best result and another state record. I'm very excited and can't wait to get to the Olympic Village", said Jovana.
Our tennis player Danka Kovinić has experience playing on Parisian clay, and this will be her second appearance at the Games, after Rio de Janeiro 2016.
The Dane received a special invitation to go to Paris, and recently recovered from an injury.
"It means a lot to me that I will participate precisely because the break was long and because during the previous years I had a "rank" for the Olympic Games. I had to cancel my performance at the 2021 Tokyo Games because of this same injury, which happened right before departure. I see going to Paris as a reward for all the hard work of recent years and the bad luck that caused me not to go to Tokyo", concluded our tennis player.
