The Olympic Games are the biggest sports competition in the world and Montenegrin water polo players will give their last atom of strength to achieve a good result, said representative Bogdan Đurđić.
For Đurđić, this will be the first Olympic Games in his career.
"After a lot of big competitions, I'm finally at the Olympic Games. Really, great atmosphere in the village. I'm still getting used to it. It's an honor to be here and represent my country. We know why we're here, we're waiting for that opening tomorrow and then we'll turn to our duties in the pool" , said Đurđić.
Montenegro has a chance at the Games, says Đurđić.
"This is the world's biggest stage where we need to give our last atom of strength. Everything is somehow bigger at the Games, so the stakes are higher. I also hope that it will get the most out of the team. We are not the first favorites, so it is certainly not a burden that will to hold us back, that there are high expectations from us. I see our chance - if we do some things that we agree on and if we play as we know how, then we can do a lot."
The first rival in the tournament is Croatia (Sunday, 16:35). The group also includes Italy, Romania, Greece and the USA.
"We beat them in Dubrovnik at the last European Championship. Croatia is the European vice-champion, the world champion, a very good team. That match can bring a lot of self-confidence. Ideally, we would open well, but we will not be disturbed by any negative outcome. Important is to keep our heads. The tournament is long, there are five top teams in the group. We will have time to show everything we know."
In the second group are Serbia, Hungary, Spain, Australia, Japan and France. It's been a long time since the water polo tournament at the Games has been stronger.
"At the previous World Cup, France finished among the four, in our group, all selections are dreaming of a medal. It depends a lot on luck, motivation, everything..." Đurđić concluded.
