Montenegrin water polo players opened the Olympic tournament in Paris with a defeat, so it was already confirmed at the start how difficult the road to the quarterfinals is.
The "Sharks" lost to Croatia 11:8 in a match in which they had a very bad start, and then showed that they can handle the "barracudas".
However, they could not disrupt the plans of the favorite, the team that arrived in Paris as a legitimate medal contender.
"Except for the start, which was not good and in which all three defenders quickly got into trouble with personal fouls, I am satisfied with the energy the team had and the desire it showed to get back into the game. We didn't use three or four attacks with one more player at the end of the third and at the beginning of the last quarter, so we could reach an exciting finish. We came like this, but it was too late," said coach Vladimir Gojković.
Defeat is never pleasant, but...
"We should forget the result, but we should keep our approach and desire to fight for each other. It should stay that way, so we can look for victory in other matches," added Gojković.
Croatian centers dominated...
"We had some miscalculations in defense, but it was a huge expenditure, especially since some players had to play more than they were used to because of problems with personal mistakes," the Montenegrin coach pointed out.
On Tuesday, the opponent is Greece, another top team.
"The Greeks are an exceptional team. We will prepare and change some things compared to them because they also changed something. We are similar teams, objectively the most similar, we base our game in the same way and we are waiting for a match with a top team and great individuals. With the energy from the duel with Croatia and everyone's contribution we can match them and we have something to hope for," concluded Gojković.
