There is no excuse - the Montenegrin water polo players were disappointed in a game that was crucial for them in the fight for a place in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games.
The "Sharks" fell easily against the United States of America, it was 12:7, so before the end of the round in group A, they had no chance to go to the knockout phase.
"A well-deserved defeat - the Americans outplayed us in every sense. For most of the match, we didn't question ourselves, we had a period when there might have been a chance to come back, but we were far away," said center Miroslav Perković.
This is the fourth defeat of our selection in Paris - but it is different from the previous three.
"Those games showed how much we can do, and this one - how much we can't. We were at a good level, we could have beaten Greece and Italy and had a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals, but we knew that the duel with the USA was crucial. We weren't consistent, we didn't stick to the agreement and we have to congratulate our rival," said Perković.
It seems that Montenegro was not ready to fight fiercely with the "Yankees".
"The last two matches and defeats were affected by stupidity, where we could have won in the regular part. We also had a lot of spending in those duels against objectively better teams than us and we had to make up for it, which obviously cost us strength. They were defeats that exhausted us both physically and mentally. However, there is no excuse for such a defeat, we had to win and we didn't do it. The result says everything, and I think that if we are not better than the USA, then we are at least equal. We had a bad match at the worst possible moment," added Perković.
On Monday from 21.40:XNUMX p.m., the rival is Romania - this is an opportunity for Montenegro to say goodbye to the tournament with a victory.
"It will be difficult to prepare for that game knowing that we have been eliminated, but we have to give everything against a team that is not at our level, but has quality. It is necessary that we play the right way and win," concluded Perković.
