Vladimir Gojković is no longer the selector of the water polo national team of Montenegro, it was announced from the Water Polo-Swimming Association.
Gojković's contract expired after the tournament at the Olympic Games, and it was agreed that he would not be a candidate for the new coach.
"The Board of Directors of the VPSCG headed by President Dr. Đuro Marić held a conversation with the selector of the water polo national team Vladimir Gojković. Knowing that Vladimir Gojković's contract expired at the end of the water polo tournament at the Olympic Games, it was agreed that he will not be a candidate for the selector of the water polo national team of Montenegro in the period which is in front of us," said the Alliance.
The president of the Association, Đuro Marić, thanked Gojković.
"Although the placement of the water polo national team at the Olympic Games in Paris is in itself a great success, especially since the water polo national team was the only placed team from Montenegro, in the discussion with the Government we shared a common position on this issue. I want to thank the Government for the more than dedicated work as a selector, and for the results achieved. I am convinced that in the future Vlado will give a lot more to Montenegrin water polo," said Marić.
Gojković thanked everyone for their support during the period when he was the "Sharks" coach.
"I had the great honor of being the coach of the water polo national team of Montenegro. For me, the biggest possible achievement in my coaching career is to be the coach of my country. I want to thank all three presidents of the Association with whom I worked. I felt absolute support from them all the time, as well as from all the members of the management boards. I would also like to thank all the sports workers, all the coaches I worked with and of course all the players. In the end, I want to point out that I hope that Montenegrin water polo will go on an upward trajectory, and I will always try, as far as the possibilities allow, to be at the disposal of water polo in Montenegro", said Vladimir Gojković.
Gojković was the "Sharks" coach since 2015. With Gojković, Montenegro won the silver medal at the 2016 European Championship in Belgrade and the bronze medal at the 2020 European Championship in Budapest.
The "Sharks" won the World League twice with Gojković - in 2018 and 2021.
At the Olympic Games in Paris, Montenegro failed to reach the quarterfinals.
