"It is an honor that I will carry our flag, I honestly wished for that. I am glad that the Montenegrin Olympic Committee made it possible for me, for which I am grateful. I am sure that it will be an evening to remember, both for me and for our other athletes ", said Danka from the City of Light.
The opening ceremony is always a special moment of all Games.
"Everyone is talking about the opening, and the fact that there is a tennis player who will carry the flag is an indication that tennis players are respected in the world of sports," added Danka.
And, when the spectacle on the Seine is over, the Montenegrin tennis player will have another day of preparation for what she has been preparing for since September 2023 - the final return to the court, after a lot of trouble with injuries.
"I had to come back somewhere, unfortunately I didn't have time to play a preparatory tournament, but I had to come back at some point," says Danka.
After a long time, it was also interesting to meet the other female tennis players.
"It's a really phenomenal feeling, coming to the Olympic Games and being on the field again, sharing the dressing room with the girls I've been playing with for years. I was positively surprised by their reaction, they asked why I didn't play. I'm glad I felt that at return".
Denmark opens the Olympic tournament at Roland Garros on Sunday, and her first opponent will be Marija Sakari.
"I know that we played several times and that I beat her on two occasions. When I'm in shape, I can play with everyone, it doesn't mean that I'm going to celebrate, but that it will be a quality match," emphasized our tennis player.
Before the start of the match, the Dane cannot assess what her performance will be like and at what level she is.
"I played sparring matches, but with tennis players of a lower rank who play a different tennis. I will try to find a player who has a style like Marija, in order to get as close as possible to what I can expect in that match".
What worries her the most is the service.
"Yes, maybe it will be a problem for me that he is not yet as fast as he usually is. He is not too slow, but I am used to serving the first serve with full force, which causes a lot of problems for my opponents, and makes it easier for me to play from the court. I hope to find some other trumps that I have on the field, in order to provide adequate resistance," concluded Danka.
