The first semi-finalist of the basketball tournament at the Olympic Games is Germany - the current world champion beat Greece 76:63 today in Paris.
The Germans had a 12-point deficit during the first quarter, managed to equalize by the time they went to rest, and then took the lead for the first time in the third quarter. And when Denis Schruder scored for plus 15 (72:57), it was clear that the world champion was going to the semi-finals.
Greece played a great first half - after Adetonkunba's point, the Hellenes gained a double-digit advantage for the first time (14:4), and when Kalates hit a three-pointer, Vasilis Spanulis' team had a maximum advantage of 12 points - 21:9.
In the first half, Germany shot poorly for three points, but was better in rebounding. The current world champion, after five tied points in the second quarter, came to 33:32, and at halftime it was tied - 36:36.
Schrüder opened the second half with a three-pointer and Germany took the lead for the first time - 39:36. Then Vokap hit two three-pointers, Papanikolau one, so Greece had a five-point advantage - 47:42.
An 8:0 run by Germany followed, Gordon Herbert's team took a 50:47 lead and did not lose the advantage until the end of the match.
