Carried by the frenetic support from the stands in the packed "South Paris" arena, the team of the legendary Italian Andrea Gianni played as if in a trance and without many problems got rid of the Poles, who were considered favorites before the final match.
In the first set, only France was questioned, and the match was broken in the second, when the Poles had an 18:16 advantage, but lost momentum. "Tricolors" completely broke the concept of Nikola Grbić's team with great serves and then a block.
There was a bit of uncertainty at the end, France had five tied match points (24:19), the Poles saved four on Leon's serve, but failed to make the fifth.
The legendary Gianni did not succeed as a player in winning the Olympic gold with the Italians, although he led one of the best generations in the history of volleyball, he succeeded as the coach of France.
