The Danish handball team, led by the legendary Mikel Hansen, who played the last match of his career, won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris by outclassing Germany in the final 39:26 (21:12, 18:14).
The Danes were "flying" the pitch in Lille from the start of the game. They completely neutralized the German attack, which had as many as eight turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
The match was broken by the Danes' 6:0 streak in the middle of the first half. From 6:5 they reached 12:5 and there was no way back for Germany.
Pitlik, Lauge and Gidsel each scored four goals in the first half, which was a total exhibition - at one point it was 21:10. You don't remember that much difference in the finals.
It was similar in the sequel, the Germans did not come close to a single-digit minus, there was even a 15 difference, at the end plus 13 - 39:26.
The most effective in Denmark was Matias Gidsel with 11 goals, Magnus Landin Jakobsen scored seven goals. In Germany, Juri Knorr scored six goals, and Ushins and Kolbacher four each.
At the previous Olympic Games, France celebrated, this time it was Denmark, and Spain won the bronze medal by defeating Slovenia 23:22.
