From the special reporter "Vijesti"
The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games ended around midnight last night, six and a half hours earlier, the last sporting event in Paris (basketball players from France and the United States fought for the gold) put an end to the 33rd OI, the first in Europe after London 2012.
Paris welcomed, guarded, and then saw off the world's best athletes, and the 16th day of the Games only confirmed the dominance of Serbia in water polo and Denmark in men's handball.
With such a fantastic edition, the "Dolphins" beat Croatia in the final and reached the third gold medal in a row at the Olympic Games - it is interesting that in the City of Light they won the first medal since the most brilliant one they grabbed three years ago in Tokyo.
On the other hand, in the final at the "Pierro Moro" stadium in Lille, the Danes easily defeated Germany (it was 39:26) for the second Olympic gold since 2016. In Rio they were the best, in Tokyo they defeated them in the final France, and in 2024 in Paris there was no dilemma...
The French public won 16 golds (four of which were won by swimmers Leon Marchan) partially satisfied with what was done at the Games, and the media regrets the most that the "tricolors" did not create a sensation in the final of the basketball tournament. They dreamed of a big result, they believe that France could have "deceived" the Americans...
"Silver is essentially like gold when you play in the final with the USA. What a shame!" wrote "Parisien" in the Sunday edition.
He concluded with a patriotic message for the basketball and volleyball players (who reached Olympic gold on the penultimate day):
"And when we win and when we lose, we do it together. Long live France".
In Paris, the last day of the Games was much calmer than any previous one since July 26 (many athletes and delegations, tourists and journalists had already returned home), and as midnight approached it became clear that it was really over - the Olympic torch was extinguished , the new Olympic cycle will start soon. And everyone is impatiently waiting for the idea that Los Angeles will present to the world.
Au revoire, Paris!
