Handball club Kotor was founded today in the "ancient city", while the first president was elected at the Founding Assembly - it will be Vasko Ševaljević, the long-time captain of the Montenegrin national team.
"Everything is the result of a recent agreement between the President of the Municipality of Kotor, Vladimir Jokić, and the famous Montenegrin representative, Vaska Ševaljević," announced the Municipality of Kotor.
They emphasized that the club was created with the aim of revitalizing sports in Kotor and renewing the work of former sports teams.
"Decided to make a strong contribution to the restoration of handball, which has a long tradition in the ancient city, the Municipality of Kotor will provide financial and logistical support to the newly founded club," they added in the announcement.
RK Kotor's work begins with the formation of younger selections - for girls and boys.
"Popularization of this sport in Kotor is the main goal of the club," they pointed out.
It was announced that the founders of the club are Radovan Vujović, Miroslav Vukičević, Nikola Pajović, Aljoša Drašković, Radovan Kapetanović, Denis Đešević, Mladen Baštrica, Branko Pavićević, Nikola Ljesar, Damir Đuranović, Nikola Lakićević, Vasko Ševaljević, Nemanja Radulović and Petar Radunović.
Vasko Ševaljević was born in Kotor, throughout his career he wore the jerseys of many clubs - from Montenegro (Lovćen), through Spain, Germany, France, North Macedonia, to Sweden and Qatar.
With the "lions", he appeared in three European and two world championships, and his match against Sweden in the play-off for the 2013 World Cup is especially memorable.
