Convincing defeat in Sarajevo, "Reds" far from Eurobasket

The Montenegrin women's basketball players suffered a convincing defeat in Sarajevo, which moved them significantly away from qualifying for the European Championship - Robert Injiges' team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina 83:68, in the fifth round of Group A.

It is the second defeat of our selection, which has three victories, and with this triumph, Bosnia and Herzegovina tied in the standings with Montenegro, but they are currently weaker than each other, because the "reds" won 76:55 in Podgorica.

Slovakia defeated Iceland 82:52 away from home, and is first in the group with a record of four wins and a loss.

In order to qualify for the European Championship, Montenegro needs to win on Wednesday against Slovakia in order to break out into first place and win a visa for the Eurobasket, because in the triangle with Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (they are expected to defeat Iceland at home in the last round) they would have the best mutual basket-difference. Montenegro is currently at +5, Bosnia and Herzegovina at +1, and Slovakia at -7.

In case of defeat in Slovakia, Montenegro could reach second place, which could also lead to the European Championship (the best six runners-up from eight groups go), only if a big surprise happens and Iceland defeats Bosnia and Herzegovina away from home. Realistically, Montenegro will have a hard time getting a new placement at the European Championship.

Without the captain and best player, Jelena Dubljević (she misses the last two games due to commitments in the Chinese club Shanghai Baoshan Dahua), our basketball players simply had no chance to win in Sarajevo.

They were only in the game in the first quarter, and in the finish they avoided being defeated more convincingly than they celebrated in Podgorica, because the home basketball players led 33:76 in the 51rd minute...

Marica Gajić was the best among the team with 17 points and 27 rebounds, while Gloria Johnson stood out in the Montenegrin selection with 25 points and 16 rebounds.
