Only a few days after Mike Krzyzewski announced his departure from the bench of the American national team after the end of the Olympic Games next year, the leaders of the federation reacted quickly.
The new coach will be Gregg Popovich, who won five NBA championship rings with San Antonio.
This information was confirmed by Jerry Colangelo, general manager of the association. Popovic will sign the contract until 2020.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to be the coach of America. What Colangelo and Krzyzewski have done in the last decade is really impressive. I will do everything to maintain high standards and record success," said Popovic.
Currently, the America selection has an impressive streak of 63 consecutive victories, of which 45 in FIBA and FIBA America competitions, as well as 18 in friendly duels. This streak dates back to 2006.
