Judonis Haslem, Miami's winger, played the second part of last season with a right knee injury.
That's why the 33-year-old basketball player, in agreement with the doctors, decided to go for surgery, in order to solve the problem he has.
He underwent detailed examinations on Saturday, and the doctors advised him to perform the operation as soon as possible.
He is expected to be ready for the start of next season.
"This injury has forced me to be smart and rest well this summer. My body is not what it has been in recent years," Haslem said.
He recently won his third championship ring with Miami, and averaged 75 points in 3,9 games in the season.
Haslem is the only man, along with Dwayne Wade, to win three titles with Miami.
